Applying for a KSEF scholarship is straightforward. Here is exactly what you need and how to submit.

Review the eligibility list above and make sure every requirement applies to you before you begin. Applications that don't meet the criteria cannot be considered.

A few things that will make your application stronger.
Choose your recommenders with care.
One of your two letters must come from a teacher, counselor, or school administrator. Choose someone who knows your academic and personal strengths well enough to write something specific and genuine.
Tell your story.
In your application essay, be specific. KSEF's board reads hundreds of applications. Your experiences in DC, your goals, your reasons for choosing your college path — let those come through in your own voice.
Confirm your FAFSA is submitted.
Financial need is one of the eligibility criteria, and the FAFSA is how you demonstrate it. Make sure yours is complete before submitting your application.
Talk to your school counselor.
KSEF sends scholarship applications to counselors and principals at every eligible DC school each January. Your counselor may already have the materials you need.
Double-check your deadline.
Applications submitted after April 30th will not be considered, without exception.
